March 18-21, the NOAA Center for Atmospheric Science and Meteorology (NCAS-M) at Howard University in Washington, DC, will host NOAA’s Ninth Biennial Forum for the Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions (EPP/MSI). The forum will showcase the collaborative education and research activities of the four NOAA Cooperative Science Centers (CSCs) with presentations by students, faculty and NOAA staff. CSCs are located in Florida A&M University, Howard University, City College of the City University of New York and University of Maryland Eastern Shore. These institutions partner with 24 more universities to help facilitate NOAA’s mission. The goal of EPP/MSI is to increase the number of students, particularly from underrepresented minority communities, who attend NOAA CSC institutions and graduate with degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and natural resource management and policy.

Since the first awards were made in 2001, NOAA EPP/MSI Cooperative Science Centers have awarded post-secondary degrees to over 1,800 students in NOAA-mission fields. The theme for this year’s forum is "Partnering with academia to prepare highly skilled and diverse candidates for NOAA’s STEM workforce: building successful educational and research collaborations for an inclusive NOAA Mission Enterprise."

The EPP/MSI Forum allows NOAA scientists and students to share new innovations and groundbreaking research within the environmental science community. It will bring together students and faculty from all four Cooperative Science Centers, NOAA scientists and managers and private sector representatives to participate in over 170 research presentations, workshops and technical sessions.
