Description
The Snapping turtle, Chelydra serpentina, is easily confused with the alligatorsnapping turtle. Considered ill-tempered, they feed on invertebrates, fish, reptiles, carrion, etc. and a surprising amount of vegetation. These turtles strapped in the fresh and brackish waters of bay tributaries and sold torestaurants for use in soups and stews. (Image credit: Mary Hollinger)
