Description
Sign over the cell that housed Dr. Samuel Mudd, controversial doctor whotreated John Wilkes Booth following Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Mudd wasconvicted of helping Booth and served three years of his sentence at FortJefferson. He helped treat many Union soldiers during a yellow fever epidemicand was subsequently paroled.
