Description
Lost City Expedition 2005. Serpentinites form when seawater reacts withperidotite - rocks that form the Earth's mantle and have been brought upto the seafloor by tectonic processes. This is a sample of a serpentiniterecovered from the Atlantis Massif. Thin fractures in the serpentiniteare filled with calcium carbonate. Sample is 16cm wide. (Image credit: G. Fruh-Green.)
