Description
The Contour Map of the Atlantic should be known as one of the classical mapsof the Earth Sciences. This version of the map was published by Sir WyvilleThomson of the CHALLENGER Expedition in 1877 and is the first ever to show thecontinuity of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The N-S line in the south Atlanticfollowed the ridge and is among the most important survey lines ever run. (Image credit: NOAA Central Library Historical Collection)
