Figure 46. Rung mounting designed by Captain George Rung, an assistant at theMeteorological Institute of Denmark. In 1883 he described a new mechanism forreleasing the reversing thermometers by means of a messenger system. With thissystem numerous bottles mounted on a cable could be released at various depthsin series. Details of the original testing of this mechanism are unknown.
