Lake Erie harmful algal bloom seasonal forecast to be released on June 29

Webinar followed by media Q&A session with lead forecaster

WHAT

NOAA will release its 2023 Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) forecast for Lake Erie on Thurs., June 29 during a media briefing hosted by Ohio Sea Grant and The Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory. The event will feature expert commentary on the seasonal forecast, a discussion of the impacts of HABs to Lake Erie’s economy and communities, and the U.S. response. 

It will be broadcast online for the press and public. A moderated Q&A session for credentialed media and stakeholders will follow both the forecast and the talks by invited speakers.

  • In-person participation: In-person attendees will have the opportunity to meet with NOAA’s lead HAB forecaster, take a research vessel cruise to learn firsthand about HAB monitoring and see laboratory demonstrations. In-person attendance is limited. Please RSVP using this form offsite link by June 20 if planning to attend in person.
  • Virtual participation: Can’t attend in person? Reporters must register here offsite link to receive the link to the Zoom presentation in order to view graphics and ask questions. (If preferred, reporters can hear an audio feed of the webinar by telephone, but telephone users will not be able to ask questions in the Q&A session.)
