Fertile areas of the ocean swarm with hundreds and hundreds of millions ofanimal plankton. Some are visible as small dustlike particles; others can beseen only with a microscope. The living zooplankton shown here contain twokinds of copepods - animals shaped like grains of rice - and one kind of arrowworm - the long slender animals at upper right and lower left.
