491Estuaries and their marshlands are necessary as nursery grounds for some ofour most valuable fisherey resources. Menhaden spawn in the open ocean , and as the larvae grow they move into estuarine waters where the juvenile stages feedand grow. Yet, marshlands are being reclaimed at an alarming rate forindustrial and residential development.
