Alewives in Burnham Harbor. Although the photo is undated, it is probable thatthese dead alewife were part of the great alewife die-off of June, 1967.Rapid temperature changes encountered by the fish in lake waters, a fungus,and blue-green algae were all listed as possible causes of the die-off but noone cause was singled out.
