Figure 34. Richard mercury bottle shown with the apparatus in the closedposition. This apparatus was specially designed by Dr. Jules Richard for use on board the PRINCESSE ALICE in 1896. It sampled water for studying the conditions for the dissolution of gases at various depths. It was used between 1000 and2700 meters at 3 stations.
