Figure 72. Brouardel surface sampler. This instrument was designed to obtain asample of the top layers of sediment with the overlying water. A forerunner ofthis instrument was the surface mud sampler built for limnological studiesby Bernard M. Jenkins of the Freshwater Biological Association. This instrument was built by Jean Comelli and tested in 1954 on the EIDER.
