Title page to George Davidson's The Submerged Valleys of the Coast ofCalifornia...., in Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences, ThirdSeries, Vol.1, No. 2. This paper documented Coast Survey discoveries ofsubmarine canyons beginning with the first ever discovered, Hueneme Canyon, in1855. Monterey Canyon was the second, discovered in 1857.
