The sounding line heard round the world. A Hayes sonic depth finder wasinstalled on the USS STEWART and it ran the first line of sonic soundings across the Atlantic Ocean from Cape Cod to Gibraltar. This profile was published inthe first number of the International Hydrographic Review and sounded the deathknell for mechanical sounding systems.
