Figure 42. Top: Richard apparatus for examining live plankton. Bottom: a sample holding tank for studying plankton. Devised by Dr. Jules Richard in 1905 andused aboard the PRINCESSE-ALICE II. It was meant to allow study under shipconditions including rolling and pitching. This instrument was also used inshore laboratories.
