Figure 60. Regnard apparatus for the study of the diffusion of oxygen in seawater. Concerned with the diffusion of air in sea water in still water, DoctorPaul Regnard, a French physiologist, invented this device based on an experiment by Julien Thoulet. He used the property that certain materials change theircolor in the presence of oxygen and described the device in 1891.
