Mild weather likely through Labor Day across much of U.S.

For much of the country, the long Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be quite pleasant and seasonal. Mild temperatures are expected as a cold front moves through the Midwest and eastern states early Sunday, according to forecasters with NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS). 

While somewhat cooler air will follow the front, there remains a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms for Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa, early Saturday, and then across the Midwest and East Coast on Sunday and Monday.

As parts of the country are enjoying unofficial end-of-summer barbecues and picnics, Florida and parts of the Southeast will come under an increasing threat from #Dorian by late in the weekend and through Labor Day. Dorian was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Wednesday and is forecast to move over Florida and the Southeast U.S. as a major hurricane by early Monday morning.

Southern California and much of the West will see hot and dry conditions with high temperatures expected to be slightly above normal. Isolated monsoonal showers and storms are possible over parts of the Desert Southwest. A weak cold front may move into the Pacific Northwest late in the weekend with the chance of rain showers increasing there on Sunday.
