Plantation Key School in Tavernier, Florida became an Ocean Guardian School! With funding support from the Gulf of Mexico Regional Collaboration Team, and in partnership with NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, NOAA Fisheries, and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, Plantation Key celebrated a successful first year of student-led waste reduction activities. Focusing on reducing single-use plastics used at the school, students displayed posters about protecting the ocean and plastics’ impact on ocean health, audited plastic trash in classrooms, and distributed reusable water bottles. Students removed 50 pounds of trash from their school campus, which connects to a mangrove habitat.
