The Acquisition and Grants Office (AGO) Small Business Office recognizes FedWriters, Inc. as Small Business of the Year, FYI, INC as HUBZone Small Business of the Year, and R.H. Contracting, Inc. as 8(a) Small Business of the Year for the 6 th Annual Small Business Program Awards.
NOAA Small Business of the Year Awards are presented during the annual Small Business Industry Day, which occurred on January 23 rd , 2024. All 3 firms were publicly recognized for their accomplishments on this date.
FedWriters, Inc.
The Small Business of the Year award is presented to FedWriters, Inc. in recognition of their exceptional service in scientific, engineering, and technical support services supporting NOAA’s Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) operations. The FedWriters team has demonstrated exemplary innovation and impact to bring cutting-edge capabilities and advanced data analytics to improve knowledge and prediction around high-impact environmental events in support of OAR’s Weather Program Office. Through top-caliber travel management expertise, FedWriters has created significant cost savings that directly translate into expanded opportunities and value to OAR. FedWriter's contributions in advanced analytics, climate science, and facilitating research application exemplify the ingenuity and outstanding operational support for which this award was created.
FYI, Inc.
The HUBZone Small Business of the year award is presented to FYI, Inc. in recognition of their steadfast commitment to fostering transparent and candid communication with customers, consistently surpassing performance targets, and significantly improving several human resources hiring metrics for NOAA’s Office of Human Capital Services. FYI’s exemplary performance resulted in their classifying over 2,200 positions, which is the first step in the recruitment and hiring of NOAA federal employees, which contributed directly to NOAA achieving over 1,800 new hires in FY23, a record high level stemming back to 2008. Their foresight and diligent management across multiple performance areas resulted in the increase of production, reduction of time to process, and ensured no excessive or unforeseen costs were incurred.
R.H. Contracting
This award is presented to R.H. Contracting, Inc. in recognition of their exceptional schedule and customer service supporting NOAA’s Wallops Command and Data Acquisition Station (WCDAS) Facility’s continuity of operations. R.H. did not hesitate to immediately respond to multiple emergency calls and provide temporary solutions while working with the NOAA program office to finalize long-term solutions. Their dedication to providing NOAA with outstanding and vital emergency support directly resulted in Wallops’ ability to continue meeting their critical mission demands.
The Small Business Program Awards recognize small businesses who demonstrate outstanding performance, accomplishment, and a spirit of partnership in support of NOAA's mission. AGO recognizes the important role that small businesses play in the successful execution of the NOAA mission.
