2017 NOAA undergraduate scholarship applications launch

These prestigious scholarships are available to second-year undergraduate students studying in NOAA mission fields, including biology, meteorology, engineering, and many other majors. The Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship is open to students attending or transferring to any accredited four year institution in the US, while the Educational Partnership Program (EPP) Undergraduate Scholarship is open to students attending a Minority Serving Institution (MSI). Typically, about 120 Hollings Scholars and 12 EPP/MSI Undergraduate Scholars are selected each year.

Both scholarships provide academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study, as well as funding to present at scientific conferences. The Hollings Scholarship provides a 10-week, paid internship position during the summer at any NOAA facility, while the EPP/MSI Undergraduate Scholarship provides two paid summer internships, one in the Washington, DC, area, and one at any NOAA facility.

This will be the 12th class of Hollings Scholars and the 17th class of EPP/MSI Undergraduate Scholars. Many alumni have earned graduate degrees in NOAA mission and fields, and more than 80 have come to work for NOAA. NOAA scholarship alumni are also working in academia, for non-profits and in industry. Scholarship alumni report that the program influenced their academic and career paths, expanded their professional networks and improved their skills for working in NOAA mission fields.
