Senior Advisor

Dr. Shali Mohleji returns to NOAA as a senior advisor to the NOAA administrator, Dr. Rick Spinrad, after serving in the same role as senior advisor to previous NOAA administrator, Dr. Kathy Sullivan. Her portfolio includes the National Weather Service, natural disaster policy, spectrum, innovation/commercialization and expanding the commercial market for NOAA’s climate information.

Prior to returning to NOAA, Dr. Mohleji served as deputy chief of staff in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She has also worked at IBM where she focused on AI and data stewardship. Her roots in the weather community stem from her time working at the American Meteorological Society.

Dr. Mohleji received her bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences with a concentration in atmospheric sciences from the University of Virginia. She earned her master’s degree in atmospheric science from Purdue University and her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado’s Center for Science and Technology Policy Research.
