Lori Arguelles

Director of Strategic Communications

Lori Arguelles is director of strategic communications and the head of NOAA's Office of Communications.

Prior to joining NOAA, Arguelles served in a variety of leadership roles in the nonprofit sector including founding president and CEO of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, president and CEO of the Alice Ferguson Foundation for Environmental Education, and director of policy engagement for COMPASS. Most recently, she was the communications director for Sojourners.

Arguelles began her career as a journalist and subsequently took her reporting skills to Capitol Hill where she served as a press secretary. During the Clinton Administration she served as director of public and constituent affairs for NOAA and then as director of corporate communications for the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Arguelles received her M.A. in Public Communication from American University and her B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science from Northern Arizona University.
