In May 2023, members of the North Atlantic Regional Team (NART) attended a Mystic River Watershed Association-led site visit to four locations within the Mystic River watershed.

The Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) offsite link is part of the Urban Waters Federal Partnership Program which reconnects urban communities, particularly those that are overburdened or economically distressed, with their waterways by improving coordination among federal agencies.

The site visit included staff from NOAA’s Restoration Center, Climate Program Office, Bay-Watershed Education & Training program, Office of Coast Survey and local Weather Forecast Office in Norton, MA. They visited four locations with potential for NOAA involvement in Chelsea and met with local partners from the city of Chelsea, Greenroots offsite link, city of East Boston, MA Audubon offsite link, MA Dept of Conservation & Recreation, and Friends of Belle Isle Marsh offsite link.

NOAA staff provided insight and recommendations for the sites as well as ideas for potential partnerships and collaborations. The overall site visit and discussions were a great opportunity for NOAA to connect with communities engaged in regional, place-based work with the goal of promoting community economic, environmental and social well-being.
