Talking story about equitable resilience in light of a climate emergency in Hawai’i

Climate-Emergency-Hawai’i Flood aftermath

NOAA’s Pacific Island’s Regional Collaboration Team hosted a roundtable event: Equitable Resilience in Light of a Climate Emergency.  This event was constructed in the traditional way of sharing knowledge, also known as “talk story,” allowing participants to feel comfortable and share their thoughts openly about climate change.  Although the panelists were diverse in terms of disciplines and islands, their requests to NOAA focused on the following themes: acknowledging the value of traditional and place-based knowledge, involving and expanding capacity-build efforts in our local communities, and letting traditional knowledge be the guiding source for management decisions.
