Description
Figure 43. Magnaghi helical mounting devised by Giovanni Battista Magnaghi in1881 near the end of his command of the Italian oceanographic expedition on theWASHINGTON. This mechanism was certainly inspired by the Sigsbee bottlemounting as well as the 1874 Negretti and Zambra water bottle mounting. Thehelical principle was used profitably by a many inventors and instrument makers. (Image credit: Oceanographic Museum of Monaco | Y. Berard)
